#3 Urban Areas in Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the least well-mapped countries in the world on OSM. This is a simple task to outline urban areas initially as residential landuse in order to provide a focus for adding additional detail such as urban roads. The scale of the 2010 floods proved very difficult for humanitarian mapping to meet its goals. Data has not improved much since then and any repeat of the catastrophic flooding would present similar logistical problems.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).
